State of SEO, Social Media & Content Marketing in 2016

Update- 8/24/16

If you’re one of the lucky ones attending SEOmozMozCon this year you’re going to be able to learn from some of the best leaders in the search engine marketing business. If you’re like me and not attending you can take solace in the fact that good folks at SEOmoz have shared some great information from the speakers of MozCon where they discuss the state of SEO, Social Media and Content Marketing.

It’s not as good as being there but think of it as the ultimate question and answer period you didn’t get a chance to go to.

State of SEO in 2016

In the State of SEO post topics such as Panda, Penguin, Podiatrists, Plasticine and Pedantic are discussed. Ok, I’m making the last three up but Panda and Penguin are real things that you need to be aware of and I’m not talking about the animals. Author Rank is discussed as well and If you are an active writer on your company blog you should add yourself as an Author on Google. If you aren’t active on your blog or don’t know what a blog is pull up your boot straps, it’s time you were.

They jump into a variety of other pretty important aspects of the current state of SEO so it’s worth checking out.

State of Social Media in 2016

The post on State of Social Media offers up a lot of great info as well. I’m sure a few of you have asked yourself a question like “Is Social Media a ‘pitiful necessity?'” I know I have. To me Social Media is simply an extension of website marketing but to others it is something more ethereal. Social Media and SEO are something that should be done hand and hand with each other.

The speakers also talk about something that business owners are considering more and more these days and that is ditching their sites and relying strictly on their Facebook pages. As Peter Meyers puts it ‘You’re not a business owner if you don’t own your business. If you put everything into Facebook, they make the rules and they can pull the plug.’ I couldn’t agree more.

State of Content Marketing in 2016

To some of you the term Content Marketing might seem new and maybe even a little scary. It isn’t. It is simply marketing your content and has been in practice for a very long time, even before the interwebs.

As the speakers discuss, the term Content is King is bandied about a lot in our business. Sure, Content is King but if your content sucks then you’re not ruling the castle. If your content is great but no one knows about it then you’re amongst the paupers still. For content to truly be king you need to have A.) Great content and B.) A great content marketing campaign.

State of Website Marketing in 2016

Overall these 3 posts provide a great fly on the wall look at what some of the leading web marketers in the country think about what is going on in our world today. Even if you are quasi-interested in web marketing you should check these out and bookmark them for future reference.
